Meet the Mission: Michele
Michele is our incredibly dedicated volunteer services coordinator. With her roots in Beaver Crossing, she’s a born and raised Nebraskan. She’s been with People’s City Mission for five years now.
Michele loves the Mission because it’s not just a job, it’s a ministry. It’s challenged her in the best of ways, since everyday is a little different. She’s the liaison between our organization and the community, working to inspire and teach people the compassion she feels for solving poverty. Seeing the volunteers have that “aha moment” and getting over that initial hurdle of working with homeless people is extremely rewarding for her. Last year we had over 25,000 volunteer visits totaling 75,000 hours, and Michele handled it with grace and a smile.
In her free time, you can find Michele doing anything outdoors. She’s full of wanderlust and has been to 49 states and 30 countries in both vacations and mission work. She looks forward to making short-term mission trips in the future to help engage youth in experiencing other cultures. When she’s not on the go, she’s sitting down with a good book. Of course, if she only had one book on a desert island, it would be the Bible, but a close second is Compassion: A Reflection on the Christian Life. It revolutionized her view of the world and what compassion looks like. The book talks about how to love people and how to show compassion to those who have lost hope. It’s no surprise that this is one of her favorites, because we think Michele is one of the most compassionate people around. We’re very blessed to have her as a part of our team.
