Happy New Year from all of us at the People’s City Mission!
As I look back at 2015 there are so many things to be thankful for! With God’s help and support from our community we were able to help over 30,000 people with critical services involving food, shelter, clothing, and medical care.
I believe this year will be even more productive. Just know the Mission is committed to helping as many homeless and impoverished people as resources permit. Unfortunately, the need is very great at the moment. It is likely the numbers we serve this year will exceed the previous one.
But the Mission is more than just about food and shelter. We also want to provide hope and encouragement to those who come here. The hope of a warm meal, a warm bed, a warm smile that tells them they have value too and are worth another chance. And to share the news that God loves them and wants to help with their difficult situations.
Sam is a guest that stays here only when he has to. He would rather live on the streets. Lately, Sam has been coming more than usual due to the weather and poor health. His concern right now is just making it through until spring. Sam is afraid he might get sick and have to go to the hospital. It’s another bill he can’t pay.
Our Free Clinic has been a big help to him, as well as our Shelter. And providing these services has allowed us to develop a closer relationship with Sam. He is now listening more to staff and slowly accepting their counsel and advice. I think we are starting to sense a break through. I think this could be the year Sam turns his life around!
What I know for sure is we are in a locked battle with poverty and its impact on those suffering in it. Here is my question for you: will you keep helping us in this fight? So we can reach out to men like Sam?
There are a lot of ways to provide support. You can give us some of your time or items in your closet you don’t need anymore. We can also use monetary donations. Demand for our services continues to grow and believe me, every nickel matters!
Just know we deeply appreciate your partnership with us. God bless you and those you love… and may great things happen in 2016!!
