Did you know that when your kids are out, all sorts of things can happen? Such as their being bullied, a stranger following them, or perhaps their need to escape a bad date. Of course trafficking is always a potential danger too. This is why Safe Place was created. Safe Place is a national program that uses the above symbol to let youth know where to go when they feel threatened. And they have asked the People’s City Mission to partner with them in Lincoln, NE.

This children’s safety initiative designates schools, fire stations, libraries, youth-friendly organizations and other local businesses as Safe Place sites, displaying the yellow, diamond logo. The Mission has set up over 50 such sites around the city that can provide immediate support to youth seeking safety, and help them determine next steps.

A young lady came to us earlier this year. She was 18, kicked out of her home, pregnant and desperate. She found herself looking for friends who would let her sleep on their couch. Unfortunately she was running out of options. It was in January, cold and snowing outside. We encouraged her to come and stay here at the shelter. With a little help, the Mission was able to get her an ID, find a job, and place her in a housing program for young moms.

Sometimes youth come to us struggling with their parents, and our role is to reunite them back together. But occasionally returning home is not an option. In those situations we work with the teen, parents, LPD and other local agencies to make sure they are placed in a safe and secure environment.

Let me just say we are honored to be one of over 20,000 Safe Place sites around the country. And here is my request. Would you be willing to support this important program? A financial gift of any size would be of great help to us. You can give here.

Thanks so much for allowing us be a place where kids can turn to when they need help the most. I hope you will share the information to the left with your kids. You never know when they or their friends may need to seek out a safe place.

God’s blessings,
Pastor Tom
