One Man’s Journey from Nearly Ending it All to Freedom from Addiction

One man’s journey through the Drug Relapse program at People’s City Mission that is helping to save lives.

Louis’s Story

Louis never planned on coming to the Mission. After a weeklong binge of drugs and alcohol, he put plans in place to end his life. As he was driving to his final destination, he was stopped by a strong thought – PCM is not far from here, go there now!

“I believe it was the grace and mercy of God that lead me here,” says Louis. After arriving, he was helped to find a job, then applied for our drug relapse program, Breakout, and moved into our Curtis Center transitional housing.

Breakout

The Breakout program provides support, education, and most importantly, a spiritual foundation to help participants achieve sobriety and gain the ability to live independently. They attend ten classes a week – spiritual care, AA, life skills, wellness, and living in recovery. Unlike any other program in the region (most that last only 90 days), they also are provided with housing and employment at PCM through a work program.

Participants are also connected with educational programs to sharpen skills to gain a career and a livable wage. Monthly, weekly and for some daily follow up after completion of the program helps graduates remain on track.

“Pastor Richard and Earl have helped me greatly in this process. They have shown me how to have faith and patience.” After he graduates from Breakout, Louis would like to teach others about God the Father, Son & Holy Spirit.

Will you help?

In its second year, we have had seven graduates so far, with six remaining completely sober and living productive, hopeful lives. We couldn’t be more proud of their dedication and the countless others striving for sobriety. Would you consider helping folks like Louis on this incredible journey? Your gift, no matter the amount, helps sustain this vital program, empowering these men and women as they regain control of their lives and build a stable, self-sufficient future. Your generosity means the world to us!

God’s rich blessings to you,
Pastor Tom

Thank you!

Last month, our shelter was overflowing as we provided food and shelter for over 400 people—serving more than 1,200 meals a day. Preparing that many meals takes a huge amount of food, so we reached out for help with essentials like cereal, peanut butter, and jelly from our Amazon Wishlist. And you all went above and beyond!

Thanks to your generosity, we’ve received an overwhelming outpouring of support. We will not have to purchase cereal, coffee, peanut butter, jelly or bedding for a few months. We are beyond grateful for this community and your unwavering support!

If you’d like to continue making an impact, we update our Amazon Wishlist regularly with essential items.

Thank you for standing with us to support Lincoln’s most vulnerable. Your kindness is truly changing lives!
