Balancing Motherhood and Homelessness
These are challenging times. Everyone is feeling the sting of rising costs of just about everything we need to live. Many of us have questions about what the future will look like, for ourselves and for our children.
Now imagine all of those same feelings, but without a home to call your own. Mothers experiencing homelessness have fears too. They worry about having to feed their kids on a limited income, about their kids not having a safe place to call home. They worry about the lasting emotional impact being homeless will have on their kids, and about managing mental health issues while still supporting their families.
Currently staying at PCM are seventeen moms with their kids, which includes two babies, many toddlers, and two families with four kids each. These women living at our shelter, and those who will come in the next several days and weeks, are navigating motherhood and homelessness. We also have many single ladies that are estranged from their children and even grandkids for whom being a mother while experiencing poverty has been extremely challenging.
The families under the care of PCM have many worries, but some things they don’t have to worry about: a place to live, warm meals, enough clothing, and a safe place where they are loved.
We want you to know that our doors always have been, and always will be open to care for the homeless and impoverished in our city. Even when food and energy costs have continued to rise, we have not reduced our services. And we are hoping you can assist us in keeping this going.

- Mother’s Day May 12 Celebrate moms and all the women who have nurtured and filled that roll at sometime in your life!
- Towel Drive May 13-26 Don’t Panic Labs is collecting towels for the 7th Annual Towel Day Drive. Click here for collection locations and more info.
- Memorial Day May 27 Remember and honor those who have given their lives in service to our country. There are several men and women who have served that are guests at the Mission.
- Spring Cleaning @PCM Spring into action as a volunteer this season! We welcome the help of individuals, families, or groups. We could use lots of help cleaning up our campus outdoors and all around our Help Center. To volunteer, call or email Josh at 402-475-1303, ext. 114 or JBurkey@pcmlincoln.org.
- Textile Donation We give away for free the best of the donations at our Help Center. The rest is recycled, with the proceeds used to help fund our services to the homeless. Drop off donations at the Help Center or a Toss Box. For Toss Box locations: pcmlincoln.org/tossboxes
