A Powerful Story of a Father’s Courage

This Father’s Day, we want to share a story that embodies the strength, love, and perseverance of a father determined to give his child a better life.

When James* walked through the doors of our Family Shelter, he wasn’t alone. In his arms was his 9-month-old daughter—his whole world. He had just taken a courageous step to protect her after realizing she was being neglected by her mother. With the help of local authorities, James secured temporary custody and brought his daughter to the one place he knew they’d be safe: People’s City Mission.

Despite the enormous weight on his shoulders, James never lost hope. He woke up early every morning to go to his full-time job, returning each evening to be the loving, attentive father his daughter needed. He changed diapers, read bedtime stories, and dreamt of the day he could provide a home of their own.

James was not asking for a handout. He was doing everything he could to stand on his own—and because of your generosity, he didn’t do it alone. Here at PCM, he found more than shelter; he found support, community, and the opportunity to build a better future.

I have great news to share! James saved every penny he could and moved into an apartment with his daughter. His mom helps with babysitting, and he continues to work hard. They are doing well.

This Father’s Day, will you honor dads like James by giving a gift that helps them keep going?

Your support will help more hardworking, loving fathers like James protect their children and work toward stable, independent lives. Thank you for believing in fathers like him.

God’s rich blessings to you,

Pastor Tom
